A report by the National Planning Institute (NPI), prepared by Dr. Huda El-Nemr, an advisor to the institute, revealed a remarkable development in Egypt's agricultural exports during the period from 2015 to 2022, noting an increase in the proportion of agricultural exports within the country's total commodity exports.

Rising value and quantities of agricultural exports
According to the report, the value of fresh, processed, frozen and dried agricultural exports witnessed an upward trend, rising from $5.19 billion in 2015 to $6.7 billion by 2021, while the share of agricultural exports in total commodity exports reached 17% in 2022, fluctuating between 16% and 24% over the past years.
The quantities of agricultural exports also recorded significant growth, rising from 4.4 million tons in 2017 to 6.4 million tons in 2022, with a total value of USD 3.3 billion, with 406 agricultural products exported to 160 global markets.
Top exported crops
The report showed that citrus fruits top the list of Egyptian agricultural exports with 27.7% of total exports, followed by potatoes (13.4%) and onions (8.9%). The main export crops include beans, potatoes, pomegranates, grapes, mangoes, tomatoes, and strawberries, which together account for 62.8% of total agricultural exports.
The geographical distribution of agricultural exports
The Arab countries account for the largest share of Egyptian agricultural exports at 40%, with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia leading the receiving markets with 12%, followed by the European Union and Russia with 23%, while the percentage of exports to China amounted to 5%, while the percentage of exports to African countries did not exceed 4% during 2020.

Expansion plans and export promotion
The report emphasized that the Egyptian government is prioritizing the expansion of international markets as a strategic priority to support agricultural exports by opening new markets, especially in the European Union and Russia, while activating programs to support exporters by improving the quality of agricultural products and ensuring compliance with international standards, which contributes to enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian exports and consolidating their position in international markets.
