Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Mostafa El Sayyad participated in the final day of the 48th session of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Board of Governors in Rome, where he reviewed Egypt's pioneering experience in South-South and triangular cooperation.
The Egyptian experience in knowledge transfer and agricultural cooperation:
During his intervention, El Sayyad explained that Egypt has relied from the beginning on a strategy of sharing knowledge and expertise with countries of the South, taking advantage of its advanced agricultural infrastructure and accumulated expertise. He pointed out that Egypt has hosted large numbers of trainees from African and South American countries, who received specialized training in various agricultural activities at the Egyptian International Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, within training programs ranging from two weeks to six months.
The impact of IFAD's projects in Egypt:
Sayyad stressed that the projects implemented and funded by IFAD have had a significant positive impact in supporting Egypt's agricultural development, especially through cooperation agreements with research centers to train small farmers, especially in remote and fragile areas in different governorates. He also pointed out that Egypt recently signed a cooperation protocol with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to enhance the exchange of information and expertise in the agricultural field.
Egypt's vision for promoting South-South cooperation:
In response to a question about ways to enhance South-South cooperation in the field of sustainable rural development, Sayyad suggested developing an integrated plan that includes periodic follow-up mechanisms, with IFAD providing the necessary funding for its implementation, emphasizing Egypt's readiness to cooperate with IFAD in this regard.
Acknowledgment of IFAD's efforts:
At the end of his intervention, Sayyad expressed his appreciation for IFAD's efforts to support member states and promote sustainable agricultural development.
Prominent Egyptian participation in the meetings:
Engineer Mostafa Sayyad participated in the meetings on behalf of Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk, accompanied by Dr. Saad Moussa, Supervisor of Foreign Agricultural Relations, on February 12-13.
